Dhankuta is a village located in Eastern part of Nepal and this type of kukri is made only in this village. Hence it is called “Dhankute kukri “. This Dhankute kukri is typical working knife; however, slimmer and lighter blade with beautifully carved scabbard and handle makes it more as a decorative tool. The scabbard also holds two smaller blades: an unsharpened chakmak to burnish the blade, and another accessory blade called a karda The blade of this knife is made by specialized artist of kukri and the scabbard is made of wooden. Scabbard and handle are beautifully carved by highly skilled woodcarver of Dhankuta and finally decorated with brass. This kukri is a perfect combination of sharpness and elegance. It is also named as Dhankute decorative.
This kukri comes with two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a sharpener called Chalmak for sharpening the blade and a little utility knife known as karda used for skinning, cutting paer and opening later. The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most kukri serves as conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, this preventing it from soiling the hilt.
