The Iraqi Operation Freedom Khukuri is popular among the Gurkha soldiers who were in Iraq because this Khukuri blade is designed to carry in operation in Iraq. This Khukuri is newly designed product to British Gurkha soldiers who are in Iraq. It is not necessary that every Gurkha soldiers who are in Iraq carry this Khukuri blade but this Khukuri is designed for the comfort and ease to carry in Iraq. The handle of this Khukuri is quite different from the other Khukuries. This type of handle is quite comfortable for working and the case or sheath of this Khukuri also matches with Iraq environment. Inspected by an officer, this Khukuri is usually used during training and duty. Like all the other Khukuries this Iraqi Operation Freedom Khukuri also has two pockets on the back of the scabbard which is used to hold a small utility knife called “karda” used for skinning small animals and a sharpener “chakmak” to sharpening the blade or for striking spark from flint. The notch(kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt serves as conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out preventing it from soiling the hilt and sometimes using as a devide for catching and neutralizing enemy blade.

Chukuri  derives from the combination of Churi (local name for small knife) and the khukuri so the name of this khukuri comes from Churri + Khukuri = Chukuri. The blade of this Chukuri knife is the mixture of both khukuri/kukri and knife. It has khukuri shape in the lower spine (or main cutting part) of the blade and knife shape on the upper spine at the end of the blade. It can be used for both purposes as khukuri and as utility knife when required. A metal hand guard is attached just above the handle at the bottom of the blade of the khukuri which is known as Kabjawal for the safety of the user
